Wildcat is a symbiote, the magical joining of the Louisiana voodoo queen Rene Laveau and a dark incarnation of the war goddess Bast. At age 17, Rene was diagnosed with Acute leukemia, with little hope of survival through traditional cancer treatments, Rene sought out cures within her family's traditions. She discovered an ancient Egyptian healing spell that invoked the Middle Kingdom incarnation of the goddess Bast, the healing mother. Sadly, Egyptian magic is vastly different than the sub-Saharan based voodoo incantations the Creole woman were versed in. The ceremony was flawed, awakening a darker, older and more primitive incarnation of the Goddess. A creature of the moon, of darkness and war rather than the protective mother. In an effort to contain the wild creature from slaying the awakener, Rene used powerful magics to cage the dark cat's essence within the only vessel nearby, her own body. Thus was born WildCat - ferocious killer of the night.

Potter's Field, Sharkhead: The new moon was six days past and a carpet of ground fog clung to the sodden earth; nevertheless, my work progressed at pace. Three of my horde were digging near to six feet, sufficient for interring the corpse of a young Longbow cadet, when I realized I was not alone with the dead.  I was being watched.  Rutledge was the first to spot her, his bony hand directing my gaze upwards and downwind from the fresh grave.  Crouching low to the roof, atop a nearby mausoleum, was a creature unlike anything I had seen before. A humanoid female with visibly feline facial and body features.  Lean and sinewy, her dark skin was covered with short, reddish-brown fur. The creature was clothed sparsely in buckled leather and hammered metal plates.  Her gloved hand held a primitive shield, wood and stretched hide, emblazoned with wild, eldritch imagery and an elaborate skull and bone talisman (functional or symbolic?).  Though it was dark and I had only moments to take in the entire spectacle, I noticed the talisman was stained with symbols - possibly Egyptian in design. The creature's luminous eyes shifted quickly between me and my undead horde.  Her ability to detect our presence, cloaked as we were in the dark shroud of Shadow Fall, coupled with the flat feline nose and shining eyes suggested heightened perception abilities of an anatomical nature (though actual proof of the presence of a Tapetum Lucidum and Jacobson's Organ would require invasive procedures I doubt the beast would enter into willingly). I do not discount the possibility of her perception having an arcane origin; the creature reeked of dark, elder magics.

My own arcane powers are strong in a place such as Potter's Field, where the dead outnumber the living ten-fold over. Perhaps the creature could sense this, for as silently as she approached, she withdrew into the foggy darkness. I committed her image to my memory for future reflection. Rutledge, Jay and Paterson remained vigil while the unnamed finished the task at hand.  The cadet's body would be ripe for harvest during the next lunar cycle.

Addendum (Mid-morning, August 12, 2009): Upon further research, I am confident the markings were indeed Egyptian, more specifically hieroglyphs - variant Old Kingdom era I believe.

Haven, Cap Au Diablo: The pale glow from a gibbous moon lit the rank alleyway...a bit too luminous for my taste. I prefer to work unnoticed; alone amidst the shadows.

The dead lay at my feet, fear still etched across their bleached faces.  The blood that drained from their bodies mingled with pools of urine and fetid water to create a stench most foul.  Arachnos soldiers make fine cadavers for my work, sadly, these miscreants put up too much of a fight and the damage my horde inflicted was too severe.  I must let the darkness consume them and hunt for other suitable hosts.
+
I was busy removing the undamaged Amygdalae and Hypothalami when the horde woke from their undead stasis, assuming a protective stance at my left flank.  A possible threat nearby, I rose from my work, preparing to tap into the dark energies of the night.  Out of the shadows of a nearby alcove, the creature emerged, exuding the same feline grace I witnessed in Potter's Field during the Feast of Lughnasadh.  Shield at the ready, she moved lithely, confidently, though cautiously, towards me.  No assault appeared imminent, so I held my ground, allowing the creature the first move, confident that my undead guards could repel any attack.

<blockquote>''"You walk with the dead and feed on the living," she rasped.  "I have watched you hunt. Your magics and my own require different vitals from the same vessel. Together, we would garner a richer crop. I propose a convenant. What say you, Priest of Inpu?"''</blockquote>
+
The odd juxtaposition of her archaic, formalized language structure and a very contemporary Creole-Cajun accent had me at a loss for a moment. To my knowledge, there are no Old Kingdom sects active in the Louisiana region, but the creature's reference to Inpu (Anubis), the hieroglyphs on her shield and the quasi-feline musculoskeletal characteristics clearly associate her to a primitive incarnation of the Goddess Bast.  Standing a mere 5 yards away, the dark forces coursing through the creature were clearly evident; powerful magic, ancient magic.
+
<blockquote>''"Give me your name, creature," I said, "so I know who or what it is addressing me."''</blockquote>
+
<blockquote>''"Do not insult me, old man, I am older and more versed in the dark ways than you will ever be.  My true name will remain unspoken by you, call me Wildcat, the name given me by the weak, fearful followers of this local Spider-king," she growled, inching that much closer to me, unfazed by the living dead towering nearby.''</blockquote>
+
<blockquote>"''My work here is done till the next lunar cycle.  When the moon is dark and new, I will once again be toiling near the graves in Potter's Field, the unhallowed ground where your presence was first made aware to me.  If you truly wish to join efforts, I will see you there.  Do not proceed in treachery, cat, regardless of your ancient pedigree, you would find Mr. Dod a formidable enemy," I said, all the while summoning a dark portal to the other side of the island, into which I vanished instantly.''</blockquote>

I need time to fully understand this creature before our next encounter.
