Whiptech, as a trading card.

Background

Whiptech was once a loyal member of Chimera's (Praetor Sinclair) secret band of assassins known as Project Phoenix (he was codenamed Echidna). When Chimera eventually gave the order to have Project Phoenix disbanded to shield him from some unsavory acts they had committed, Whiptech was kicked to the curb, literally.

Nate had spent years of his life developing weapons, armor and other technologies for Chimera under the employ of Project Phoenix. He had done this in the service of the Empire, and due to the fact that he was promised to be compensated considerably upon the successfull completion of the Project's objectives. In the mean time, he had been given a lab with near limitless resources, and fine living accomodation in the Imperial City (quite a step up from his home in Neutropolis).

All that was cast aside when Project Phoenix was shut down. No more lab, no more housing, and definitely none of the compensation he had been promised. So, he went to the person with whom he had enjoyed working with the most while on the Project: Belladonna Vetrano. She was not an easy person to find, but Nate was not about to let Praetor Sinclair's misdeeds go unpunished. He eventually did meet up with Belladonna and made plans to raid his former lab to pull out any tech he wasn't able to take with him when he was so hastily expelled from his former workplace.

The operation was a success! Whiptech, as he was now known, had gotten many wonderful inventions from the lab, and burned it to the ground afterwards. Of course, he saved all the best gadgets for himself... and donated the rest to the cause of the Resistance.

Technology

Among the many items that Whiptech got out of the abandoned Project Phoenix lab was an experimental gauntlet that could generate plasma and when swung, would create temporary "plasma whips" which could cut through many materials with ease. In addition, he made off with some hollographic imaging technology that created intimidating demon-like creatures. Though any damage they did was purely imaginary, the technology was such that rather than merely creating light-based images it actually affected the minds of those who viewed the projection which resulted in psychic damage when illusions attacked. (Consequently, this is the reason the technology was never marketed as a form of entertainment in Praetoria which was it's original purpose.) Lastly, Whiptech adapted a bevvy of gadgets for use as "trick" arrows due to his prowess with a bow (much like his former mentor, Chimera). Lastly, Whiptech makes use of a Teleportation device to move about Praetoria as undetected as possible.
