Background

Rosa was born and raised in Paragon. As a high school student on a field trip to the Paragon Museum of Science, she came into contact with an artifact from the Shadow Shard, on loan from the Freedom Phalanx collection. As all items from the Shadow Shard are thoroughly tested before such public contact is considered, current operating theory is some other artifact within the museum activated it’s potential.

Clinically dead for three hours, her corpse was placed in isolation while awaiting special teams coroner unit for autopsy. This is when auto-revivification occurred and Rosa woke up in the morgue. Other than complaints of being cold, she appeared to be without harm; cold and of course her skin had turned a dull, dead, blue. She was kept in isolation until arrival of professional meta-human observation team for threat evaluation. Rosa was further detained for six weeks before release back to her family. After release, Rosa was enrolled in the Paragon City Special Student Program and assigned basic security level. As she is still considered a minor, full status as a hero is carefully supervised, and it is possible her listed security rating does not accurately reflect subjects threat level.

The artifact that initiated Rosa’s genesis was consumed in the event. The other pieces, which were discovered at the same site within the ShadowShard, have been claimed as objects of religious/cultural importance by the Kheldian ambassador to the United Nations.

Personality

The traumatic experience of her “heroic birth” appears to have no lasting psychological effect on Rosa. With the strength and resilience of the young, she has adjusted quickly and happily to the powers she has developed. Her family, on the other hand, has not adapted with enthusiasm to the changes and has become estranged. Rosa evinces a false cheerfulness often associated with teens undergoing emotional isolation. Other than her older brother, Rosa's family has rebuffed her attempts to maintain contact and has given legal guardianship to the Paragon Heroic Administration.

Powers and Abilities

Scorpio Rose displays the ability to generate ebon-force and manipulate to a variety of effects. Primary uses to date have been simple projection of force. In recent weeks, she has begun to experiment with defense capabilities and widening her repertoire of powers. Ebon-force, also called Darkforce, has been seen in other heroes. To date, Rosa does not appear to be aware of the greater powers, investing most of her focus in developing the purely offensive skill of projecting. During recent experimentation she has discovered the capability to stun and daze a wide number of opponents. Studies of darkforce manipulators suggest this is the earliest stage of the truly amazing powers available. Possible developments that have been exhibited by others include the ability to immobilize opponents and revivification of persons who have not undergone brain death.
