The Daring, Death-Defying Tobacconist is a native-born hero of Paragon, and he's happy to let anyone know it. Some heroes are here out of a sense of duty. Some are forced here, but the Tobacconist is defending the only home he's had. His heroic persona is flippant and irreverent, whether this is a front for deeper concern for the people around him or he really is this shallow is hard to tell, and he'll admit that both are probably true.
Background
Some people are born heroes, some choose it, some have heroism thrust upon them. One poor schmuck was just out looking for a good source of smokes when his family store got steamrollered by some New World Order group or another. Larry O'Connor had seen his childhood home destroyed when the Rikti hit Baumton. He'd watched his own neighborhood in King's Row get overrun by robots, thugs, and loony wizards, but all he had wanted was to build as normal a life as he could manage in the middle of the craziest city on earth. That was denied him. Finally fed up, he dug through the wreckage of his shop and found his grandfather's WWII-era heroing togs. He now fights an old-fashioned two-fisted battle to save us all from anyone who would save us from ourselves.
Powers
The Tobacconist has no superhuman powers. He has picked up a variety of combat skills on the streets, honed in the rougher gyms and fighting rings of Paragon City. Upon meeting him, magically-talented people get the inkling that he is also under a powerful enchantment. However, medical examination by some of the Rebuild Paragon Congress's magical heroes have shown no enchantment. The only explanation that anyone could come up with is that Larry is just naturally lucky, with the ability to avoid or shrug off attacks that should have severely injured or even killed him. He has augmented his high-jumping and running skills with a set of jet boots that allow him to out-race most conventional automobiles.
