Origin
Jonny Boyd became fascinated by circus life at the age of five after visiting the big top with his parents. Free spirited and adventurous, Jonny’s parents encouraged his love of magic and would often travel the globe to experience carnivals and cabarets from other cultures. Jonny soon showed great promise as an acrobat and sleight-of-hand artist.
Upon graduating from high school, Jonny joined the world-renowned Circus of Sin troupe. His amazing feats of strength and jovial personality won the hearts of his peers and audience alike. After a few short years, he was the star attraction of the circus.
While performing with the Circus of Sin, Jonny became romantically involved with Cajun sword master Jacques Duzant. Jonny & Jacques lived in perfect happiness until the Circus of Sin’s true motives were brought to light.
The Ringmaster, owner and overseer of the circus, had been using dark magic on the audience members, stealing small fractions of their souls in an attempt to gain power. Unhappy with the slow results, The Ringmaster began to feed on his performers’ souls, twisting them into dark versions of themselves and turning them into his personal army.
Jonny & Jacques discovered the plot and vowed to take The Ringmaster down. Unfortunately, they were too late. The Ringmaster had delved deeper into black magic and performed a ritual to imbibe his army with superhuman abilities, bringing them under his complete control.
Unknown to Jonny, Jacques had limited abilities in voodoo magic, taught to him by his grandmother. Jacques was able to place a spell of protection on Jonny before The Ringmaster’s spell could take full effect. Jonny was granted superhuman powers, but retained his independence.
Jacques was not as lucky and became a soulless member of The Ringmaster’s troupe. Jonny tried to flee with Jacques, but the swordsman was already lost and attempted to kill Jonny.
Adopting the name Carnyvale, Jonny now fights against evil and is searching for a way to release his lover, now known as the deadly assassin Pas de Deux, from The Ringmaster’s hold.
