She'd been an active member of the Shadow of the Storm for some time, becoming a major thorn in the side of groups such as the Circle of Thorns and the Council. So when an assault on a Council base went wrong, leaving her trapped under rubble with her comrades unable to save her, the Council - instead of executing her - decided to try to turn her. They drugged her, left her isolated, leaving her to the not so tender mercies of the Nictus.
But she wasn't alone.
The goddess she gained her powers from, her family's patron, couldn't interfere directly - centuries of obscurity had taken much of her power. But she could still find another - a newly arrived Peacebringer, sent to discover what the Nictus were up to in the region, proved to be receptive to her messages. He was directed to the base, infiltrating and finally finding Therra. The drugs had weakened her but not broken her spirit. The Kheldian didn't know if she'd be able to withstand the Nictus for long in her condition. With proof he was there at her goddess's direction, and a friend, he explained what he could do. One way or another, they'd get her out.
She agreed to merge, becoming a Peacebringer and escaping just as the Nictus arrived - she vowed, seeing what they'd done to the Kheldians, that that would be the only time she'd fly from a fight with them.
Therra returned to the Shadow of the Storm only to find things had changed. The nanobots that infused Agent Snow had taken him over, taking advantage of his distraction and suppressing his "inefficient" emotions, changing "her" again and working against Therra at her return, having her imprisoned in the base. Eventually the other members drove him out of the base, Therra promising to redeem her partner somehow, taking on the new name of "Paladina" to symbolize the change and her new responsibilities.
