Rumpelteazer is the result of a “happy accident” at Doctor Alison Lynn Gothson’s lab. She had been working on gene splicing procedures when her cat decided to investigate the lab bench. Unfortunately, the landing overturned most of the beakers the doctor had been working with. Alison wasn’t caught in the mess, though she had to fish the unhappy cat out of the puddles of goo.

Over the next few days, changes came over Rumpelteazer, she started taking on human characteristics. The doctor was concerned, but as the changes went on she became fascinated by what was happening to her pet. By the end of the week the changes had finished and she found her pet had become more of a daughter, though with a tail and pointed ears.

Rumpelteazer still had her curiosity, and she read voraciously. She started to fixate on the colorful costumes and exploits of the city’s heroes. Soon she had appropriated an old Hallween costume of her "Mother’s” and was slipping out to emulate what she had read.
