Background

Eric T. Wells was a scientist. He held his ability to think rationally, investigate thoroughly, and synthesize data in the highest regard. He absolutely adored the process of thinking and creating. And over the years, his investigations had gradually (yet inexorably) lead him to the study of alternate realities, or what lay-people often call "dimensions." This interest of his naturally lead him to Portal Corp.

However, Portal Corp. did not deign to discuss employment with him... though it was content later to send him on various errands once he had acquired abilities himself (which, had he been able to remember his past at the time would have been much to his chagrin). With his legitimate access to the complicated and expensive technology to better study alternate worlds effectively blocked, he began to look for alternative ways to earn either the funds to recreate said technology, or access to it via other means. This path lead him to many different tasks that he is not entirely proud of.

Marcones

Eric eventually found himself applying for work with the Family in order to sell some of his inventions and possibly his services as a staff researcher. They were very surprised, and at first didn't really see any reason for him to work with them at all. That is until a man named Vincent Marcone put in a good word for him.

Once Eric was in the employ of the Family he went right to work in both banking his earnings and doing as much inter-dimensional research as the facilities at his disposal would allow. You see, it is through his research that many upper members of the Family were granted gravitational powers, which cemented Eric's place within the organization.

Vincent made frequent visits to the lab to see how things were going. At first, Eric played it off that he was merely checking up on the scientist he had vouched for. Gradually, though, he got the feeling that Vincent might be gauging his usefulness in a very different sort of project. His hunch was very accurate, for one day Vincent invited Eric to a meeting outside of the Family's estate and spoke with him at length about his desire to take down the Family from within. Eric was surprised, but he thought that it would be appropriate atonement for the evils that had likely been carried out due to his helping the Family for so long. It is unfortunate, in a way, that he would never really get the opportunity to help Vincent on his quest. But, Eric was eventually able to go about that atonement that he longed for...

A Man Lost

That conversation was 15 years ago... and in many ways, in a different reality for Eric. That conversation occurred a week before Eric had scraped together enough cash and parts to finally test his greatest achievement yet: a working inter-dimensional transportation device. It was far less sophisticated than those at Portal Corp. and as a result, less precise in its destination as well. Eric was hell-bent on assuring that it worked though: personally.

Eric stepped into the device, once he had assured that both living and non-living objects could cross the boundary into the alternate reality and return safely, and vanished from his lab in the basement of a Family owned property.

Fifteen years later to the day, Eric reappeared in Paragon City far from the lab from which he had left in more ways than one. He appeared with virtually no memory of where he had been, or what he had done before he left. All he remembered was thinking the phrase "I am the Emissary" with a great swell of pride. Eric, had become a man who was lost... but he had gained powers to emit, control, and manipulate sand. Though he was gifted with an intriguing ability he was also cursed: he had no memory of himself, and found it exceedingly difficult to breath and see in this new environment. The only memories he maintained of his travels beyond were the phrase that always hovered at the back of his mind and a memory of the immense heat and gigantic quantity of sand.

Now, he wanders the Earth, an Emissary to nowhere.

Metagame Information

This section pertains to out-of-game information and is included for the benefit of the reader, or to include other OOC information.

Lost Emissary was my second 50, and the first character I played in tandem with my significant other. I discovered by playing him, that if I am going to play a Defender, I really enjoy when its powers are enemy-focused (i.e. Debuffs) more so than when they are teammate-focused. So, it is fortuitous that Lost is a Dark/Dark/Dark Defender.

After reaching 50, my significant other's character fell to the wayside, and that gave me the opportunity to re-invent Lost's bio. He went from a scientist working against the Family and the Marcone family in particularly, into a somewhat amoral scientist who meddled with inter-dimensional travel and crossed into an alternate reality. When he got back, he found he had little to no memory of either world.
