Kiri of House Tarin, Seventh of the Royal Offspring, Star Alliance Chief Theoretical Astrophysicist
Early Years
Kiri, or “Seven” in the Royal Language, was conceived in the same manner as all humans of the Star Alliance, by science. Birth Scientists manufactured artificial proteins in the Birthing Labs and grew them using a specific template set forth by the Birth Council. Kiri grew submerged in her semi-permeable embryo biobag the small gelatin-filled cell. After six months, she was decanted and extracted.
She was perfectly normal baby, grew to replace the one ofthe Royal family that had chosen the End of Life. But in commissioning Kiri's birth, the Grand Chancellor had discovered and exploited an ancient loophole in the birth laws, buried deep within one of the ten thousand texts of the Seven Laws. The Grand Chancellor may engineer his own offspring – if he allows the subsequent child to be engineered by the Lead House of the Grand Council. As such, Kiri was born with an advanced intellect far beyond any the Star Alliance had ever seen. Her beautiful golden-copper hair, unheard of in the Alliance, would mark her for life.
Education
The Early Care Facility of House Tarin received Kiri into its membership, along with other newly decanted offspring. There she was conditioned into the culture of the Star Alliance, homogenized. It soon became apparent that Kiri's mental faculties were far beyond any method that the care keepers could use to challenge her further growth.
At walking age, Kiri was admitted into the Capital World's Early Education Facility. Within a year she had achieved all that they could demand of her. Two years before bonding age, Kiri had accepted full membership at the Advanced Learning Institute. At twelve years, bonding age, she accepted full membership into the Professorship there, and was the youngest to ever be accepted into the Professorship's bond web. Through it all, she never considered her birth place Royal Line, never paid attention to Royal politics, and never cared to keep an eye on her new sister – the one created after her.
However, as much as Kiri loved teaching Astrophysics and Theoretical Physics, she longed to be away from civilizatin and explore the stars. When she was approached by the Exploratory Fleet to command the research vessel, Infinity, she accepted and never looked back.
Finally she was among the stars, exploring and discovering, putting the politics of the Alliance far behind her.
Civil War
Back home, the Star Alliance was in turmoil. Beren, the Chancellor's Second Offspring, and Cerex, the genetically augmented Eighth Offspring, had planned and plotted to usurp control of the Star Alliance for two decades and now their forces were ready. Beren, guided by his younger and more cunning and dangerous Cerex, began their bloody overthrow of the Grand Council and their take-over of the Star Alliance. The Grand Chancellor was whisked away into hiding by his attendants, but all of his remaining Offspring were slaughtered, leaving only Kiri. Starguard, the Alliance's police force, had been taken totally unprepared.
The Infinity, monitoring the collapse of a supernova into a rare magnetar, came under surprise attack shortly afterward. With the aid and quick-thinking of two of her most loyal Starguard bodyguards, Draco and Pai, Kiri was rushed to an escape pod and jettisoned. Using the singularity drive to tear a breach into Infraspace the escape pod entered and escaped. Kiri was away, her destination unkonwn, but at least she was safe from the unknown attacker.
The effects of Infraspace combined with the intense gamma radiation and magnetism of the magnetar would change Kiri forever.
Earthfall/Changes
Kiri's escape pod dropped out of Infraspace near the orbit of Earth. The escape pod's computers programmed a course for the world but the engines had been damaged and the pod crashed somewhere in Nevada.
When Kiri awoke, she discovered the pod's computers had been destroyed, as had framework of the pod itself – nothing was salvageable. With no way to tell where in the galaxy where had fallen, she set off to the nearest civilization to discover what she could. After a few days of catastrophic attempts to find help and fit in, she created an Earth identity and settled in at a local University.
Learning the language of this “America” had been easy enough, but the people were harder to take – they were animals. They gave birth as animals did, they ate killed meat like animals did, and they mated like animals - with reprehensible monogamous pair bonding. None of it sat well with her and it took her time to adjust.
The next five months of her life on Earth was filled with disappointment. There was no way home. All she could gather, from Astronomical evidence, is that she had emerged from Infraspace in a distant spiral arm on the other side of the galaxy. Earth technology was hundreds of years away from the technology she'd need to fashion a craft to find her way home.
And, somehow, she had an unusual connection to Infraspace. My will alone, she could bend Infraspace around her, creating a field of protective force. After months of practice, she discovered how to incline the unseen wells of gravity and “glide” along the gradient, allowing her to fly. The responsibilities of her high station drew her to use these abilities to protect those of lesser status than she, and on more than one occasion she found herself in conflict with the laws of this America.
Fitting In
When she heard of Paragon City, a place full of diverse life forms with abilities as equally unusual as her own, she felt drawn to it. Arriving, she sought employment at the University of Paragon City in Founders Falls, and became an adviser to the scientists of Portal Corporation. Finally licensed to fight against those that would oppress the lesser peoples, she took the name “Starblaze”. She tailored her first superhero costume at the behest of one of her super powered colleges.
Her adventures saw the first incursion of the terrible Rularuu creatures into paragon City. Alone, she fought and defeated the infamous Doctor Vahzilok. She was responsible for the capture of eight entire factions of the Freakshow. Later, she began to explore the new, alien dimensions opened by Portal Corp and explore the lands she encountered there.
The Infinity Equation (Incarnate Power)
Throughout her career, Kiri knew that every action, every event, must be expressed by a mathematical equation. There were many abilities, including magic, that she could never factor in. For years it rattled in her head, random pieces that never quite fit. Revelation came as a surprise one day when she thought that maybe these unexplained powers were not fueled by the physics of our universe, but of another neighboring it. Over the next year, Kiri crafted an equation that joined the physics of both universes. When it was complete, the equation explained everything – it was the grand equation linking two universes … the Infinity Equation.
When she examined the Equation in full it revealed something else: using the energies of Infraspace, the “membrane” shared by these universes, she could use the Equation as an engine to create a mathematically described physical event. By figuring the appropriate mathematical expression for a particular physical event, she could arrange and solve the Infinity Equation, harness the energy it released, and make that scenario real.
Her new-found power came just in time to help others curb a vicious war waged by an alternate reality known as Praetoria. Now she could bend space, create channels of atmosphere through Infraspace and around herself and soar into the stars, or fold space and arrive at another location instantaneously. Finally, she had found a way home.
Future
Kiri waits for the day when she can return home and reclaim the power stolen by her siblings and return it to its rightful place, the rule of the Grand Council and her father, the Grand Chancellor. At this time she lacks the power and resources to initiate such a campaign, but with the Infinity Equation now hers to command, maybe planning can finally begin. But for now she is content with living among her “Earther” friends on her adopted homeworld.
Personality
Kiri is positive and bright, though her odd cultural beliefs keep her from becoming intimate, both physically and intellectually, with the humans of Earth. She's developed a taste four Country Music and Western films, thus proving that intelligence is no way to measure one's taste and discretion. After seven years of living on Earth, she's come to think of humans more than animals, and a few she considers friends. Her royal upbringing fills her with the desire to protect those of a lesser station than her, and with her new found mastery of the Infinity Equation, she feels the responsibility to protect the Earth, not any single country.
Powers
Martial Arts: Taught to her by her loyal Starguard, Kiri has mastered the Storm Arts, the hand-to-hand combat technique of the Alliance's Starguard force.
Increased Strength: Due to her initial exposure to Infraspace and magnetar energy, Kiri can lift about one ton, making her physical attacks more damaging. Her body tissues are dense enough to stop penetration of medium-low caliber bullets, knives, and some radiation.
Force Fields: Kiri can bend the membranes of the universe to protect others, and herself.
Flight: By altering the gradient of gravity wells, Kiri can “slide” or fly along them.
FTL Travel: By carrying an atmosphere through Infraspace, Kiri can travel amongst the stars without the need for other protection.
Teleportation: Bending space is easy with the Infinity Equation!
Invisibility: By enveloping herself or other targets in the folds of the universe, Kiri can hide people or objects from direct view.
