Character Name Collisions
If the same character name is in use on different servers, the standard procedure is to have the name resolve to a disambiguation page, and for each character article name to have the server indicated. The following example illustrates the standard format of a character article name when a character name exists on multiple servers:
Character Name (Server)
For example, Taxibot Belle (Infinity). If all characters of a name belong to the same player, the player may optionally use a redirect instead of a disambiguation page.
If the characters belong to different players, the disambiguation page is required is stored in a template named Disambig char template. Use the following steps to create a disambiguation page:
- If an existing character page is present, move it to meet the standard character name format mentioned above. Do not delete existing character pages of other players!
- Edit the original page to contain the following text:
{{subst:Disambig char template}}
- Save the page. The template text should be substituted in the disambiguation page.
- Re-edit the page to contain the list of the character's name across the different servers that belong to each player, in alphabetical order by server.
