Background
Darrell Jones decided early on that he wanted to be a superhero. His sister Cyndi was a cop with the PPD who was injured in the line of duty, but took the disability (along with some high-tech robotics from her scientist father) and turned into a hero, fighting alongside the Battling Monkeys supergroup as Cyclopatra.
At age 16 he stole another one of his father's gadgets, a freeze ray, and hit the streets to fight some Skulls. He promptly got beat up and captured. After being locked in a dark closet in a Skulls warehouse without food, he was taken to a Bone Daddy who attempted to eat Darrell's soul. A group of heroes raided the warehouse and stopped the Skulls from killing Darrell, but his psyche was damaged.
When returned home, his relationship with his father was strained. Darrell also started to exhibit wild, sometimes violent mood swings. The intervention of his sister didn't help things; to Darrell, Cyclopatra represented the life that he wanted but could never have again. In complete dispair, he once again stole his father's tech, this time an energy-transfer unit called the Cyclofusitron and a complete cold-weapons battlesuit, and set off into the cold, cold December.
Directionless, Darrell wound up running into one of the Winter Lord's Frostlings that were plaguing the city. His cold powers virtually useless against the frozen creature, he wound up nearly frozen himself. He was taken to the hospital, then taken to prison. His stay was short-lived though, as he escaped during an Arachnos-lead bust-out, and found himself in the Rogue Islands. It was there that he met the enigmatic Raptus Regaliter, who saw the potential for mayhem in the young man and inducted him into the vile ZEBRA Death Squad.
Current Status
December Man has been having a rough go of it recently. His tempestuous relationship with fellow ZEBRA Bloodscorch ended violently when his relentless taunting caused Bloodscorch to to melt away a part of his cold-weapons suit.
Using the opportunity, Raptus Regaliter experimented on December Man, replacing some of his body with cybernetic devices, and installing an unprecedented two Cyclofusitrons on him, one in his power suit, and one actually in his body. December Man has since returned to duty more lethal than ever, but even more of a shell of a man than he was.
