Ace Jones is a slack jawed skirt chasing hero operating out of Paragon City with the mutant ability to generate and project vast amounts of raw energy. While his personality and reputation wouldn’t label him as a stalwart crusader of justice he has proven time and again his heart is in the right place and that he gets the job done - in style.

Character History

Vanguard

Ace's family moved to Paragon City after his father got a call to join an organisation known as Vanguard which had formed during the Rikti War and was rebuilding in the wake of the war's end scouring the entire planet for talented individuals and the senior Jones' service record got him noticed. Ace and his sibling both joined applied to join the service when they came of age, though in Ace's case this training was far less successful. He constantly chafed under the command of the senior staff and his carefree nature brought him into conflict after conflict with his trainers. It was at this time that Ace’s latent mutant power first manifested during a training exercise where he indivertibly blew a training robots head off with a bolt of light that fire from his palm. The experience and shock left Ace comatose for three days, upon waking Vanguard’s medical staff were on hand to explain what had happened being well versed in super types. Two weeks later both Ace’s father and brother disappeared on a covert mission and their entire squad failed to return. Despite Ace’s best efforts he could get no answers from the Vanguard brass stating that the mission parameters were too sensitive to disclose at this time and all he was able to find out was that their unit had gone missing in a place known as the Shadow Shard, a place far too dangerous for a 'grunt' like him. Disillusioned and angry, Ace fled the compound and took to the streets of Paragon City as a costumed crime fighter determined to get stronger and to make a difference.

A Young Hero

Ace decided to go freelance with his newfound mutant abilities and signed with the Paragon City Hero Register becoming an officially recognised super hero in the winter of 2007. He re-coloured a special ops uniform he had stolen from a Vanguard locker to create his first costume and set about fighting crime, wherever he could find it. Things initially went well for the young mutant who broke up street gangs and petty robberies and, through sheer luck, stumbled upon a Superadine stockpile in a Skulls controlled warehouse which he turned over to the authorities. Impressed, the Paragon Police Department (PPD) granted Ace access to their radio communications to listen out for potential crimes. The cocky young mutant was enjoying his newfound power and local fame and spent his evenings indulging his vices at local bars and clubs – alcohol and women. Detective Becktrees observed the young mutant squandering his potential and approached Ace with more serious work putting him in touch with David Wincott, an officer leading the PPD’s efforts in The Hollows. Still buoyed by a string of easy victories and an ever swelling ego Ace dived into The Hollows paying little attention to warnings of the officers stationed there. It wasn’t long before he came up against a foe far superior to anything he’d encountered back in Atlas Park, a monstrous living pile of flaming rock known Magmite Lord. While he gave it his all, at this fledgling state Ace’s blasts did little to slow down the beast. It was then that the mysterious Mr Thin rescued the young mutant, placing the creature in a psychically induced deep sleep allowing Ace to escape. Mr Thin introduced Ace to a fellow energy wielding super human in the form of Staar Fury who took under his wing, teaching him about life as a super hero and how to develop his powers further. It was during this training that Ace first encountered The Aweosmizer and Starsabre and following a series of successful excursions into the Hollows the trio were offered a place within the super group Staar Fury was putting together – The Heroics (Defiant Supergroup).

Personality and Motivation

Powers and Abilities

Ace's mutation allows him to generate and project vast amounts of raw energy. Over time he has mastered this ability allowing him to conserve strength, achieve higher outputs and apply his abilities in more complex ways. His mutation has advanced as well, though it is unclear whether this is a natural prgression or a result of Ace's exposure to a wide variety of effects from his adventures. He has progressed to the state where he, at least partially, exists as energy rather than a solid being. Much like Ghost Widow, Ace is able to reform and 'pull himself together' after apparently being obliterated making him a veray tancious individual. Still, the process requires time and a great deal of effort and will on his part and the experience leaves him drained and fatigued. Another example of his heightened abilities is he has learnt how to concentrate his own power to the point of combustion giving him a limted degree of fire control and able to generate a simple shield of flames. Most recently Ace was exposed to the Well of Furies like many other heroes and villains. His baseline abilities have been strengthened greatly from the experience and appears to have overcome his previous limitations as he continues to develop his talent.

Affiliations

Allies

  • The Heroics (Defiant Supergroup) – Ace Jones was one of first members of the group and remains active to the present day.
  • Vanguard – Ace originally trained as a Vanguard Operative, but following conflict between his attitude and duty and frustration at getting bogged down with red tape he left the service shortly after his mutant powers manifested. He returned to fight alongside Vanguard during the Rikti resurgence and was made an honorary member for his actions. More recently he was part of a team put together by Vanguard and sent to Praetorian Earth to counter the WarWork invasion.

Adversaries

  • Tyrant Jones – Ace's brother, he is a former Vanguard operative who was forced through the Bane Spider training program. He was freed from Arachnos’ control after becoming separated from the Bane Spiders’ hive mind, though there is no trace of his former self and all that remains is a twisted, vengeful and ruthless individual.
