I remember the night it all started, the eager anticipation of Christophe's 9th Symphony. Magic was in the air that evening, and then, Madness! Those horrid white and black masks appeared from nowhere! Madness and his Psycho Death Squad had taken Symphony Hall hostage hoping to loot the valuables from the wealthy patrons of the arts. Christophe implored him not to hurt anyone, but in a show of power and ruthlessness, he injected Christophe with a full dose of his Insanity Serum.

His mind twisted into hate and madness, Christophe spent the next 2 years in the Mercy Isles' Asylum until managing his escape during the riots of '03. Bent on bringing the music of murder and mayhem to all of Paragon City, he became known as Murder Maestro, leader of the notorious Asylum Orchestra.

If Christophe has indeed become Murder Maestro again and has learned how to manufacture Madness' Insanity Serum, you must stop him!

Maestro Kleiber's Baton

The conducting baton used by the Christophe Kleiber, ill-fated conductor of the Paragon City Symphony Orchestra. It will always remind you of descent into the madness that turned a brilliant musician into the maniacal Murder Maestro. A tragic tale you like to call:

Curse of the Ninth, Symphony in the key of Crazy

It all began when the famous soprano, Sophia Kalos, contacted you. Maestro Kleiber had been kidnapped by the arch-villain Madness and his Psycho Death Squad. You went to an abandoned lab to search for clues, but the place was infested with Freakshow. You gained an ally in Faultline; the hero had been trailing Patient 13, right-hand man to the maniacal Murder Maestro, when ambushed by Freakshow. Together you defeated Patient 13. The hero also revealed to you that Murder Maestro was none other than the missing conductor!

Next, the crime lab was able to trace chemicals on the vial back to an abandoned sewage treatment facility. The PPD had observed members of the Psycho Death Squad entering a nearby office building. You went to investigate and rescued the conductor as well as 3 members of the Arts Council.

Kleiber soon vanished again. Ms. Kalos surmised the conductor had reverted to his villainous alter-ego.

Soon, Longbow patrols called in suspicious activity at the abandoned Mercy Isles' Asylum. You went to investigate and found yourself in a full-blown war between the Psycho Death Squad and Murder Maestro's hired help, the Carnival of Shadows! The crazed conductor had found a formula for the Insanity Serum; smashed cases of the poison littered floor. You destroyed the remaining barrels and captured Murder Maestro. The music score found you on him was actually a twisted plan to unleash the Insanity Serum on the audience during the finale of his Symphony - clearly the work of a very sick mind.

All that was left was to apprehend the lynchpin to this tragedy. Faultline contacted you with urgent intel: Madness was holed-up in a warehouse on Talos Island. You defeated Madness, but not before the appearance of Murder Maestro. You were able to subdue the crazed conductor, but rehabilitation seemed a distant reality.

During the fight, Madness revealed that the conductor had hired him to stage the Symphony robbery. Kleiber was obsessed with an old superstition that any composer of symphonies will die or go insane soon after writing their own 9th Symphony. He had hired the villain as a distraction, so that his 9th would never be heard, hoping to sidestep the curse. Madness also tells you that the serum injected into the Maestro was just a placebo - a fake! The Maestro's madness was his own. The recent kidnapping was simply a warning to other Asylum members to stop searching for the formula and messing with his operation. The Maestro is seems had never left the stage.

Within weeks of solving the case, you read that Kleiber had managed to escape once more. You are sure this is not the last you will hear of the maniacal madman, Murder Maestro!
