Affiliations

The villainous mastermind known as Gameshow primarily works alone, but he is considered one of Lord Recluse's Destined Ones and maintains a base of operations in the Rogue Isles. He is not formally a member of Arachnos, but he accepts mercenary jobs on their behalf and is a skilled agent. Gameshow is also a member of the Commission, a criminal syndicate of superpowered beings in the Rogue Isles that are taking advantage of the power vaccums created in the ongoing conflicts between the Marcones, Verandi, and other criminal outfits in the Rogue Isles.

Backstory

Simon Hall was once a television producer in Paragon City whose successful series of reality shows such as The Real Housewives of Paragon City, The Secret Lives of Heroes, Hero Patrol, and Super Weddings made him a fortune. In 2004 Simon began working on another reality show where superhuman beings would engage in gladiatorial combat with robotic opponents and overcome mechanical death traps, but the ambitious undertaking of Paragon Gladiators went tragically wrong. After one contestant was killed during a live taping in front of a studio audience, Simon's show was immediately cancelled from the network and he was summarily fired. Although litigation from lawsuits was limited due to waivers signed by all contestants of Paragon Gladiators, Simon faced a number of legal problems for several years afterword. His name was blacklisted in the industry and his wife Melanie divorced him in a rather public and financially devastating case. The aftermath left Simon Hall a broken man, and he went into seclusion for several years.

In 2008 Simon's ex-wife disappeared, along with several studio executives he once worked for. Police investigations were met with a bizzare series of clues and messages from a masked villain calling himself Gameshow, taunting investigators to find the missing victims before they were too late. Each week the police received a video recording of two victims being pitted against each other in a deadly maze involving death traps and robotic hunters. The goal of the game was simple - each contestant had to kill the other contestant in order to win. For several weeks investigators watched in horror as the victims, one of whom was the former Melanie Hall, were forced to ambush and kill the other victims in order to save their own life. During one sick game, two of the victims found each other but did their best to escape, refusing to play by Gameshow's rules. The hunter droids eventually found them and killed them both.

Although Longbow and several heroes became involved, by the time they found Gameshow's lair it was too late. The remaining survivor was Melanie Hall, although the trauma she endured forever damaged her psyche and she was placed into the care of a psychiatric ward. Several months later she committed suicide. Gameshow was apprehended and revealed to be none other than Simon Hall, who bore no shame for his deeds and saw only the praise in his work. Simon was sentenced to life in prison and soon became an inmate at Ziggursky Prison, but his period of incarceration was cut short by an Arachnos raid.

In 2009 Arachnos raided Ziggursky Prison and escaped with several inmates, one of whom was Simon Hall. Simon has since found refuge in the Rogue Isles and is presumably working on recreating his Gameshow persona, building a new studio and deadly arenas for future contestants to entertain his audiences. Simon fully expects that the residents of the Rogue Isles will be far more receptive to his work and is certain there will be no shortage of new contestants each week vying to survive on live broadcasts across the Isles.

Powers

Gameshow does not possess any real superhuman powers, although he is a genius with technology and specializes in robotics and mechanical engineering. Gameshow employs a number of human assistants to help him in the broadcasting of his shows, but his prize creations are the deadly robotic gladiators he designed to test the abilities of his contestants. Gameshow is also highly proficient in designing deadly traps of all sizes, a skill he uses to great effect. The combination of robotic minions and death traps makes Simon an extremely dangerous opponent to confront when he is in his element or has had time to prepare for a conflict beforehand. Without his robots and traps, he is an otherwise normal if not extremely psychotic human being.
