Background
The demon Kaaht'uus'x once lead a demonic hoard through a natural rift between natural and demonic worlds and cut a wide swath of destruction in the fertile lands that became the Gobi Desert around 50,000 years ago. Unbound, the demons were naturally forced back to hell, but not before Kaaht'uus'x's pale visage was painted into the stone walls of primative man's caves.
In 2003, occult studies major Jane St. Claire delved into the mysterious "Pale Devil of Mongolia" for her graduate thesis. Inspired by the hero Infernal, St. Claire had been dabbling in demon summoning and binding, and during one of these summonings had found a demon that exchanged the Pale Devil's True Name in exchange for it's return to the demonic plane.
St. Claire decided that she would attempt to summon and bind Kaaht'uus'x. After several months of preparation, St. Claire successfully summoned and bound the Pale Devil. At first Kaaht'uus'x was furious at the capture, but after St. Claire explained her intentions, the demon decided to be cooperative.
The two traveled to Paragon City and became the heroes known as Dark Saint and Pale Devil. Kaaht'uus'x was surprised at how easily the people of Paragon accepted him as a heroic fighter, and enjoyed the fighting that he undertook at the Dark Saint's command.
After the duo became associated with the House Of Emerald Strumpets supergroup, Dark Saint began to spend more time doing her occult research for the group, and over time became a respected expert on the magical groups and entities of the City. With less guidance, Pale Devil's level of violence in his work increased, even though he could never "go bad" due to his continued binding. By 2012, the Federal Bureau of Superhero Affairs classified Pale Devil as a Vigilante, and was monitoring him closely.
Personality
Despite being a demon of the seventh demonic plane, Pale Devil is congenial and pleasant to his crime-fighting colleagues and even to his adversaries. Over time, this tends to win over people who initially is horrified by his demonic visage.
Current Status
Pale Devil has been accumulating Incarnate power. Dark Saint is studying how Incarnate power, demonic power, and her own binding interact.
Alternate Dimensions
On Praetorian Earth, amateur occultist Jane St. Claire accidentally summoned the demon Kaaht'uus'x, and was promptly killed by the pale creature. The Pale Devil stalks Praetoria, summoning his own demon servants and wreaking havoc, while forming alliances with both Loyalist and Resistance contacts to create the maximum amount of havoc.
