Twilight-Storm was born Evelyn "Evy" Medici to affluent parents living in Founder's Falls. She lived a life of privilege, educated in the best schools in Paragon and seemingly having a promising future in Physics and Astrobiology. This was all turned upside down when she was captured by the Council a few weeks before her 22nd birthday and was forced into being infected with an 'intelligent bio-weapon' (in reality a Nictus called Obsidian Star). Unbeknownst to the Council, Star had gone rogue and instead of forcing his way in, he and Evelyn merged willingly with one another resulting in the birth of Twilight-Storm. Now 25, she has dedicated herself to irradicating the Council to stop anyone else from being subjected to their experiments ever again, even if she has to resort to what most heroes would consider 'unorthodox' or even morally dubious techniques.

Personality

A lot of people in Paragon (including many heroes) view Twilight-Storm as an anti-hero, although she does not consider herself as such and would not accept such a title. She believes that if she can stop many more innocents dying by 'removing' a few bad apples then it is her moral imperative to do so; by leaving a dangerous villain alive who later went on to murder thousands she would have far more blood on her hands than if she had just killed the villain in the first place. She was quoted by the AP as saying "If my actions poison the people's opinion of me then so be it. Many of this city's so called Heroes are more willing to sacrifice the lives of untold innocents than make themselves a murderer. This unfortunately leaves me and a few brave others to clean up after them." According to her family she didn't always suscribe to this view and indeed seemed to be quite the idealist; it appears to have been hammered into her by her abuse at the hands of the Council.

Because of her willingness to use lethal force she often feels alienated by other premier heroes such as Statesman, whose belief that "a true hero never uses deadly force" she finds irritating, naive and dangerous. She has, however, found an unexpected ally in Manticore and is one of the few heroes who know of his involvement in Wyvern.

Abilities

Umbral Blast

As a Warshade, Twilight-Storm is a master of the void. She can manipulate dark energy, gravity and matter to blast and dominate her foes. The gravimetric nature of most Umbral Blast powers often slows the targets attack and movement speed. It is this set of powers that allow her to shift into a Hulnanim, a strange squid like creature that can project bolts of energy at its foes. She can also imbue the living essence of her fallen enemies with Nictus Energy and create an 'Extracted Essence' which is an echo of the target’s life force, and although not sentient, the infused Nictus energy does give it a rudimentary spark of life.

Umbral Aura

Twilight-Storm, as a Warshade, can generate Dark Fields to give herself incredible defensive capabilities. It is this set of powers that allows her to become a powerful Ruktur that has high resistances and almost complete immunity to immobilisation.

Shapeshifting

Twilight-Storm is a tri-form Warshade meaning she has three main forms; human, Ruktur and Hulnanim.

Tactics

Twilight-Storm will typically superspeed up to a target group before using Gravity Well to hold the most dangerous foe in place whilst she switches to Dwarf form to taunt and use both her mires to both damage them and boost her own damage before letting loose her Quasar or Unchain Essence powers if the group is enough of a threat. This usually clears mobs quickly and efficiently.

Strengths

As a tri-form Warshade, her versatility is probably her greatest asset along with her ability to drain both active and defeated foes to increase her own damage and damage resistance capability as well as use them to restore her energy and create new allies (extracted essences).

Weaknesses

As with all Kheldians and Nictus, Twilight-Storm is extremely vunerable to Quantum Array Weaponry. She can also be vunerable to being overwhelmed by groups that are too large for her to handle on her own.

Character History

The Birth of Evelyn

Evelyn 'Evy' Medici was born in 1985 to an affluent family living in Founders' Falls. Her father, Giovanni Medici, was a prominent member of the Rhode Island State Senate (retired 2008) and her mother, Phoebe Medici, a prominent Civil Servant in Paragon and, as a result, she lived a life of privilege with the best education money could buy. Her family had, in previous decades, allegedly been linked via campaign donations to the Mob, something her Father and Grandfather (also a retired state senator) had always vehemently denied. It was perhaps, because of these rumours, Evelyn chose to distance herself from her family's history in politics. Many of her teachers and lecturers noted that she seemed to have a keen interest and promising future in Astrobiology and certain areas of Physics. In retrospect it was probably this interest and her family's influence that led to her becoming a prime target for Council indoctrination.

The Birth of Twilight Storm

On the weekend of her 22nd birthday, on her way back home from University, she and two other friends, Lucy Horton and Matthew Spencer, were abducted by a group of men in strange uniforms. Her father appealed for anyone with any information of her whereabouts to come forward and work with the PPD to help find his daughter. After six months and no new leads the official search was called off by Police Chief Bochco.

During those six months, Evelyn and her friends was subjected to all sorts of physical and mental torture all the while being told it was 'conditioning' for some 'greater purpose'. According to retrieved Council data, Horton didn't even make it a month before her body gave out and she died. It was after this first six months that Spencer, began exhibiting strange symptoms. He would wake up in the middle of the night, chattering madly to himself about strange shadows flitting across time and space to whisper in the back of his mind before falling back into a restless sleep. Shortly afterwards he was taken to another cell for 'further tests'. Her friend's nonsensical rants had terrified Evy but what worried her more was that she too had started to hear quiet whisperings in the back of her head. By night, she would dream of hurtling through the vast, cold emptyness of Space in a black, shadowy vessel, all the while hearing not just one but thousands of dark, sinister voices calling her name, pleading with her to let them in. Then, one night, a single voice rose above the others, drowning them out; it identified itself as Obsidian Star, a Nictus. It claimed that the only way for Evelyn to get out alive would be to let Star merge with her. Evy was initially suspicious but night after night Star would return saying the same thing. He began to explain what the Council were doing, he told her that he was tired of forcing his way into hosts, tired of serving the Council and most of all tired of, and disgusted with, the machinations of his fellow Nictus. There is no known way for a Nictus to become a regular Kheldian again, however there were whispers amongst his brethren of an underground movement which seeks to 'redeem or destroy' the Nictus, a group who call themselves the Warshades. Eventually, Star proposed a deal; if Star helped Evelyn escape, they would merge and join the Warshade movement and turn their combined power against both the Nictus and the Council. Evelyn relented and Twilight-Storm was born, not quite Evelyn but not quite Star. The Council Archon observed the successful merge and came down to the holding pen to debrief what he expected to be a newly compliant soldier. He opened the door and was immediately set upon by Twilight. She beat him into a bloody pulp and then; using his essence to close her wounds and gather her strength, she blasted her way up through the base, getting stronger with every foe she felled, and made good her escape. Reunited with her friends and family, she dedicated her newfound power to the Warshades, just as Evelyn had promised, and trained under the elusive Shadowstar who acted as her protector while she grew in strength.

The Rise and Fall of Raiju

It did not take long for Twilight-Storm to become among the most powerful beings in Paragon, she was rubbing shoulders with the greats; Positron, Manticore, Sister Psyche - she even saved Statesman from both Emporer Cole of Praetorian Earth and the Reichsman of Axis Earth. Even if they didn't agree with her methods, they certainly couldn't deny that she got the job done. In an effort to calm her down, she was appointed mentor status by Statesman and was assigned to Scott Williams, a low level Katana wielding hero who went by the name of Raiju. At first she was a outright dismissive of Scott, but after a few months of working together the arrangement started to become warmer and eventually she opened up to him and the two became inseparable. They eventually entered into a more intimate relationship and Scott's presence seemed to have the desired effect on Evy; she seemed to become far more relaxed and happy, content it seemed, to allow her passionate vendetta against the Council slip somewhat. When Statesman deemed it suitable, Raiju was sent on his first solo sojourn into the Rogue Isles. He was tasked with retrieving a captured SAS soldier Lt. Samuel Cousland from an Arachnos holding facility headed by Operative Blackwell, a nasty individual who was trained in various methods of unpleasant interrogation. Eager to prove himself and his mentors teaching abilities, he readily accepted. After sneaking into Cap au Diable via boat and cutting his way through the Arachnos soldiers guarding the facility, he found himself at the holding cells. He broke through the door to find a relatively unharmed Lt. Cousland and they both made off down the hall. Cousland made a point of breaking into the armoury to grab some pistols so he could cover Scott. They made it out onto the street only to be faced with a ring of soldiers with Blackwell at their head. Blackwell fired two shots hitting Scott in the head and chest and killing him almost instantly. Cousland let fly a torrent of bullets which sent the soldiers running for cover. Before they had a chance to regroup, Cousland started the long process of dragging his rescuer's dead body to the evac point on the other side of the island fending off successive waves of Arachnos minions. Scott Williams' funeral was a small affair which barely recieved any attention from the media, his death was written off as a tragedy but one for which the world cared little, for Twilight-Storm however, it was as if what little happiness she had found since her abduction had been cruelly torn away from her. She realised that as much as she cared for Scott he had made her soft, she had lost her edge. She vowed she would avenge his death publically and graphically if possible. She petitioned to have Samuel Cousland (now the new Raiju) registered as her new mentee and together they would make Blackwell pay for his transgressions.

Known Associates

Former

Lycaen Kastellanos aka Lycaen (Childhood Friend)- A childhood friend who lost control of his shapeshifting powers and was captured and released by Arachnos into the Rogue Isles as a 'controllable asset'. Twilight-Storm has expressed a serious interest in locating Lycaen and either 'redeeming, curing or if those both fail; at least putting him out of his misery'.

Scott Williams aka Raiju (ex-mentee and possible lover) - the original Raiju was a Katana wielding hero who was a mentee to Twilight-Storm and they worked together on numerous occasions. Some say the two were more than friends and that would certainly go a long way to explaining Twilight-Storm's fury and devastation at the news of his execution at the hands of Operative Blackwell whilst he tried rescue Lt. Samuel Cousland (SAS) from an Arachnos holding cell on Cap au Diable. She has since taken Cousland himself under her wing as the new Raiju to avenge Scott's death.

Current

Phoebe Alice Medici (mother)

Giovanni Marcus Medici (father)

Helen Kastellanos (friend) - Lycaen's sister and a close friend of Evelyn's. Evelyn promised her she would locate Lycaen and try to help him regain control of his powers.

Samuel Cousland aka Raiju (mentee) - Samuel Cousland became the new Raiju after donning Scott Williams' power armour. Williams had attempted to rescue Sam from imprisonment and torture at the hands of Arachnos and had managed to get him outside the facility before being shot dead at close range by Operative Blackwell. Sam returned fire with pistols he had stolen from the facility's armoury and managed to send the Arachnos troops into disarray. Before they had a chance to regroup, Sam started the long process of dragging his rescuer's dead body to the evac point on the other side of the island. He made it and, in honour of Scott's sacrifice, he became the new Raiju, studying under Twilight-Storm and waiting for his chance to take both his and Scott's vengeance on Operative Blackwell.
