Hello, Knightowl, and welcome to the Ouroboros Portal! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Don't forget to drop by and introduce yourself in the forum. It will require a separate registration (login and password), but most users use the same username in both places. There's even an RSS Feed, if you're into that.

Also, make sure you take a look at the Help page. There are a lot of preloaded images, missions, and contact info templates, and what you want to add might already be there.

Image Category

I saw you've uploaded some images, so in order for you to keep them together and easier to search for, I added the Category:Knightowl Images and Category:UserKnightowl categories. To place an image in your user image category, place "[[Category:Knightowl Images]]" (without the quotes) in the "Summary" field on the Upload File page. But don't worry if you forget to add the category when you upload. If you go back to the image after, you can click on the "Edit" tab and add the Category tag at any time. The same is true for anything you want to add to the UserKnightowl category. Placing the tag anywhere on a page will work, but it's generally best to keep all category tags at the bottom of a page.

Also, this is a "wiki". Anyone can host a wiki. That other term is a registered service mark of a particular for-profit entity that makes its money by hosting wikis and plastering ads all over the place - one that we parted ways with some time ago. Is there any way to delete images once they're uploaded? In the course of trying to find a reasonably-sized image for use on a character bio page, I've inadvertantly added unnecessary images that I won't use, and I don't wish to waste valuable file space. - Knightowl 21:26, 28 July 2009 (UTC)knightowl

Only people with admin privileges have the ability to delete images or pages. (Though not on the list, I also have admin rights because they're shared between here and Paragon Wiki.) Since normal users are not able to delete anything, they are able to request deletion of something by marking the page or image with the Delete template.

Templates, of course, are used by inserting the name of the template on a page within curly brackets. Take the userbox templates on your User page, for example. Marking any page with {{delete}} automatically adds it to the Candidates for Deletion category. This category is checked every now and again by admins who will then review and delete anything in that category if deemed appropriate to do so. Note that it help admins decide whether or not to delete something if you include a reason for deleting the page or image. If you aren't sure how to do that, check the documentation on the Delete template's page for an example. --Eabrace 21:46, 28 July 2009 (UTC)
